Al Van Wagenen's
interest in pictures started when he was a Boy Scout working
for the merit badge in photography. He started shooting
with a Brownie box camera and then developing his work
in his mother's preserve closet. Now retired and living
in Old Lyme, he is once again working to achieve that 'certain
something' that he feels can only be found in black and
white imagery.
Al works with a 25 year old Minolta X-700
with three lenses and numerous filters. He does his own
film processing and printing in a darkroom he built in
his basement. He loves being outdoors and is able to travel
which provides a continual supply of new subjects in addition
to the lower Connecticut Valley which is one of his favorites.
